The Oldest Rugby League team in Ireland is Dublin Blues, formed in 1991 with the contribution of few rugby enthusiasts. The club has been promoting rugby in Ireland since its formation. On the inception of an Irish League, the Blues had exceptional results winning the League and Cup double on numerous occasions. The Blues were the First Irish Side in RFL's Rugby League Challenge Cup in 1998. The Blues have competed in that competition several times as Irish League Champions.

Ulster rugby

The IRFU purchased a new ground for Ulster club in 1923 in the Ravenhill district of Belfast at a cost of £2300.00. The ground was enclosed and a stand accommodating 3500 built at a cost of £15,500. In its first season Ravenhill hosted the International between Ireland and England and between 1924-25 and 1949-50.
