Governing Body

International Rugby Board

The International Rugby Board (IRB) is the world governing and law-making body for the game of rugby union and is headquartered in Dublin, Ireland. Currently there are 95 full members and 8 associate members. It consists of eight Unions with two seats each: Scotland, Ireland, Wales, England, Australia, New Zealand, South Africa and France. Four unions have one seat each: Argentina, Canada, Italy and Japan as does FIRA–AER. The full membership meets at a General Meeting which is convened every two years. Regional meetings are held at regular intervals. Its president is Syd Millar (Ireland), since November 2003.

Rugby Lead International Federation (RLIF)

The impetus for forming the federation came from the French, and the RLIF was founded in 1948 at a meeting in Bordeaux, France. The Rugby League International Federation (RLIF) is the world governing body for the sport of rugby league. This organization is responsible for organizing international competitions such as the World Cup and Tri-Nations, as well as fixing the laws of the game and co-coordinating international development. It simply consists of a series of informal meetings between administrators from the leading nations.
