This beautiful links course, in grand separation, is bounded by the Irish Sea, Donabate Beach and Broadmeadow Estuary, situated between the uppermost sand dunes of any links course in Ireland, its rocky beauty cannot fail to impress. The Island Golf Club is one of Ireland's leading Links Courses. A 15 minutes from Dublin Airport, the course is positioned across the estuary from the old-fashioned village of Malahide, just North of Portmarnock.
The Island Golf Club is one of the finest links golf courses in the world. The course excites, tempt, satisfy and infuriate but at the end of the round you will be well alert that you have just played a very special golf course.
The Island has an extended history attached to it. The course was only reachable by boat from the Malahide marina until 1973 and though these days are now gone, what remains is a conventional, world class links golf course that rivals the very best in the world.
Seven new holes were blended into the best of the original layout and the course is now a test for the very best. The most current alterations to the course were made by Jeff Howes Golf Design in preparation for the Irish PGA Tournament in 1999 and these included the new 10th and 11th holes, along with additional fairway bunkering on the 4th and 15th.
The links itself requires tremendous shot making skills and offers innumerable fantastic holes, including some huge natural dunes. One of the most remarkable holes at The Island includes the par 3 13th, which requires a 210 yard stroke across the Broadmeadow Estuary back to the mainland. This is a cherished hole, which if played when the wind is thrashing up the rock face from the sea, will certainly make a lasting impression.
When you will come here then you will experience it among fantastic links which tests every club in the bag, once seen - Never forgotten...!!
